Feedblocks

Cloeren’s fundamentally sound designs provide you the comfort of technical sustainability. Our Feedblocks handle a wide range of polymers, rates and structures, from 2 layers to 1,000+ layers with industry leading performance and tolerances. To meet your specific needs for versatility and economics, Cloeren offers a variety of Feedblocks — Variable Geometry (VG™) Feedblocks, Fixed Geometry (FG™) Feedblocks, NanoLayer™ Feedblocks and InfiNano™ Feedblocks (Infinite number of layers with Nano individual layer thicknesses) for the production of NanoLayer Films™.

VG™ Variable Geometry Feedblocks

The most versatile of the Feedblock designs is the patented Variable Geometry (VG™) Feedblock. It features the Cloeren developed Selector Plug™ Cartridge, plus our externally adjustable vane and distribution pin designs.

  • Movable Vane Designs
  • Distribution Pin Designs

FG™ Fixed Geometry Feedblocks

The Cloeren Fixed Geometry (FG™) Feedblock comprises removably mounted, fixed geometry flow inserts and a Selector Plug™ Cartridge for layer sequencing. The FG Feedblock is simple to set up and operate, and is best suited for the more defined process and high viscosity applications such as sheet.

InfiNano™ & NanoLayer™ Feedblocks

Developed in 2002, Cloeren’s NanoLayer ™ Feedblocks enhance barrier performance, film toughness, film robustness, film modulus, film formability and/or film optics. These systems are used in applications such as: High Flex Barrier Film, Optical Film, Stretch Film and High Barrier Food Packing Film.

Feedblocks Options

To enhance the performance of the Feedblock, Cloeren developed the Selector Plug™ cartridge and TopHat™ design to make altering layer structure sequencing easier.

SelectorPlug™ Cartridge

The Cloeren developed SelectorPlug™ is an interchangeable cartridge located upstream of the combining section. It enables the operator to quickly change the layer structure without completely disassembling the Feedblock. By simply exchanging the SelectorPlug with one having a different channel routing, you can alter the product layer sequence in less than 30 minutes.

TopHat™

The patented TopHat™ design, like the Selector Plug Cartridge, provides an easy means for altering layer structure sequencing. It allows rapid overhead change without disassembly of the Feedblock or melt delivery piping. Available for use in numerous applications, the TopHat is best suited for applications comprising a large number of extruders, and for low viscosity applications.

Extrusion Dies

No one understands the fluid, mechanical and thermal interactions of the flat extrusion process better than we do. Cloeren Dies are available from as narrow as 50mm (2 inches) to as wide as 10M (400 inches) to produce film that is a few microns thick or to produce sheet that may be over 40mm (1.5 inches) thick.

Single Manifold Die

The Cloeren Epoch™ Die Series feature unique manifold geometries, complemented by a patented two-stage mass flow compensating preland. This exclusive combination provides heretofore unattainable individual layer uniformity in Feedblock coextrusions. The patented Epoch Die was the first commercially established Die comprising a mass flow compensating preland and uniform wetted surface area to address non-uniform Die Clamshelling.

  • Epoch™ III
  • Epoch™ V
  • Masterflex™

Multi-Manifold Die

The patented Epoch™ IV Multi-Manifold Die is perfect for combining materials with widely diverse polymer rheologies. Available from 2 to 5 layers and when combined with Feedblocks, Epoch Multi-Manifold Dies offer the ability to increase the number of layers while still maintaining the established performance and reliability expected from Cloeren Feedblocks. In addition, each manifold can be designed to control the width of the individual Die channels by using internal deckles.

  • Masterflex™

EBR™ Extrusion Coating Die

Our patented EBR™ (Edge Bead Reduction) Internally Deckled Die consists of independently adjustable components and a self-sealing external seal insuring optimum sealing—an industry first. Plus, the edge trim is more suitable for recycling since it is made of a single polymer.

Web Coating Dies

Our product line includes Specialty Web Coating Dies for pressure-sensitive and hot melt adhesives, solvent, aqueous, emulsion, solution, slide and curtain coatings. Our product offering includes Mastercoat™ (flexible lip) Coating Dies and Fixed Slot Coating Dies, in either Single or Multi-Manifold designs with single or multiple lip openings.

Mastercoat™

The Cloeren Mastercoat™ family includes the Mastercoat I adjustable lip slot coating Die for Hot Melt and Pressure Sensitive Adhesives; and the Mastercoat II fixed slot coating Die for solvent and water based coatings. Cloeren also introduced the Mastercoat™ III Die system in 2007 — a revolutionary Die system for the solvent and water based web coating industries. Exacting tolerances of up to 75 nanometers are available to complement the application and process specifications.

Ancillary Equipment

A wide portfolio of ancillary equipment is available to complement and enhance our line of Feedblocks and Dies to improve your process.

Vacuum Box

Designed to enhance quenching in cast film production, the Vacuum Box removes entrained air from the chill roll thus promoting improved film quenching. By drawing film onto the chill roll surface, it enhances web cooling, reduces drag at the lip exit, permits higher line speeds and reduces film neck-in, resulting in increased productivity.

  • Single Chamber
  • Dual Chamber

The Soft Box Air Knife

The Soft Box Air Knife for cast film operations promotes web quenching by gently blowing a low-velocity, high-volume air curtain over a large surface area. By increasing the impinging surface area, film properties and clarity can be improved, especially for CPP films.

On-Line Die Splitter

To facilitate the cleaning of your Die, Cloeren customizes Die supports with an on-line Die splitter insuring increased up time and minimizing the potential for damage to the Die. Precision fabricated rails and precision hardened cams allow the Die bodies to be split and cleaned with precision alignment for re-assembly.

Die Supports

Dies are precision components and often have several pieces of ancillary equipment included with them. Cloeren builds several support products for easier maintenance and safer handling of Dies.

Cleaning Carts

Cloeren offers a complete line of Die cleaning carts to facilitate maintenance, transport, storage and preheating of your Die.

Melt Transfer Pipes

Our heavy wall melt pipes deliver a thermally uniform melt stream from the extruder to the Feedblock and/or Die. Designed to safely handle extrusion process pressures, the inside diameter of the pipes is precision bored, highly polished and plated for optimal flow behavior.

Drool Pans

During routine maintenance or for product change-over in the Extrusion Coating and Laminating process, a drool pan will capture the extrudate from the Die keeping the work area clean and minimizing contamination of the polymer so it can be recycled.

Fluid Delivery Systems

To accommodate your slot coating Die, Cloeren's Fluid Delivery Systems precisely meter and pump fluid to the Die. A variety of delivery methods are employed depending on the fluid, along with full monitoring, and safety features. Computer controls assure accurate and repeatable delivery of the fluid.

Die Positioners

Die Positioners for the Slot Die Coating Industry support the Die in a precise, repeatable position relative to the substrate or backing roll. A range of designs is available pending the thickness, speed and coating process.
